Crookwath Cottage, Self Catering cottage in the Lake District, Ullswater, Cumbria

Crookwath Cottage, Ullswater

A traditional Lakeland stone cottage set high up in the fells above Ullswater.

With only the sounds of nature to nurture your soul, Crookwath Cottage, Ullswater, is set 350 meters above Matterdale in the remote valley of Dowthwaite in the heart of the Lake District National Park.

Surrounded by mountains and big skies, Crookwath is off the beaten track down a cul de sac, car-free noise for a week! It is truly a remote and beautiful place.

With stunning views from all windows, you can walk directly onto the fells and leave the car behind. Crookwath is the ultimate peaceful place for complete stillness and silence.

Crookwath Cottage oozes history, style and an artistic touch. Stone carvings and paintings by the owner are a feast for the eye. Beautiful antique furniture adds to a sense of timelessness and peace.

Wander through 22 acres of bird filled private woodland and ponds with its barn set for lazy lunchtime BBQs, or just eye-walk the view over High street, Gowbarrow and Place Fell, and soak in the solitude and calm of the fells.

Sue Allan, Cumbria Life

“It was hard to leave and a joy to return to. We hope to do that again soon.”

Peter, London

“Richard and Geena are marvellous hosts. Our family of 5 were welcomed on the Friday and we were immediately impressed with the views, the constant hot water and cosy kitchen (we practically lived in the kitchen it was such a perfect spot). The bedrooms were great and comfortable with great linen and spotless clean. We LOVED our daily walk to Lucy’s Wood and were lucky enough to have some fine weather on our last night so we had a memorable bbq in Lucy’s Wood next to the barn. Richard could not have been more helpful providing us with wellies for all so we could make the most of our stay!”

Lynne, Newcastle, 2021

“We had 4 blissful days at Crookwath Cottage and didn’t want to leave. What a perfect place with stunning views and so many fantastic walks in the surrounding beautiful countryside. The house was perfect, cozy and comfortable, and equipped with everything you need. We will definitely come back. It was our idea of a perfect holiday.”
