Useful Information

Television

We have Sky TV. Always turn the television on with its button. Then use the sky remote. Press the top right black button twice pointing it at the digibox below the TV. (Make sure the doors are open). You should now be on Sky. Press 998 on the remote and this will tell you about how to use Sky TV. We get BBC1, BBC2, Channel 4 and Channel5. Once you are on Sky – use the blue button to scroll through channels and when you see something that you like: press “select”. Please don’t touch or remove the digibox card. Code is 1234. Always switch off at the TV.

Music Centre

Please use the remote control. The instruction book can be found under the unit.

Mobile Phone Reception

There is good Vodaphone reception here at Crookwath Cottage.

WiFi

We have wifi, enough megs to download music and films

Food

We are equidistant from Penrith (Morrison’s, Sainsburys, Booths, Cranstons, Aldi) and Keswick (Booths, Co-op) Every other shop in Keswick sells outdoor gear!

Septic Tank

We have a very old septic tank system. Do NOT flush sanitary ware, nappies/liners etc down the loo. Use bins and bags provided. Otherwise the system might block up and could ruin your holiday. Only use our household detergents, provided free. These keep the tank’s bacteria alive!

Refuse

If you wish to recycle refuse then use the bins as marked and we will dispose of it at the end of your stay with us. We do not have a refuse collection here, as the lane is too steep and narrow, so we use a wheelie bin at the top of the hill just past the 1st house on the right. We ask you to take your rubbish there before leaving Crookwath Cottage.

Sitting Room Fire

We supply kiln dried wood for the wood burner. Once alight please keep both doors closed. Take care when opening and closing the glass door – close gently to avoid breaking the glass. Leave the ash and we will empty this at the end of your stay.

Heating

If you are cold, press the top left button of the white control box on the wall to the right of the Aga. This will give you one hour’s heat. It is timed so that it will come on early morning and again in the evening. Press the button again for more heat.

AGA

Please do NOT touch or open the control panel. Any change to the temperature is dangerous and will cause the water to boil.

Hot water *** warning ***

Be careful, the hot water can be extremely hot! The Aga does all the hot water for you.

Tumble Dryer

Place tube out of the window when using the drying machine. Let the drier finish its cycle even if clothes are dry as it cools itself down at the end of the cycle.

Dish Washer

Use Powder blocks provided under sink. Place 1 in the left-hand section of the dispenser on the door.

Car Parking

There is off road car parking for up 3 cars.

Stop Cock

We hope you don’t need to know this, but the stop cock is below the sink in the kitchen.
